Welcome to the 2019 Alberta Orienteering Championships!
Done and dusted!Thank you all for joining us. We hope you enjoyed the event. Results are posted under the Results link above and Photos will be posted as they are collected!
Thanks to all the volunteers who helped in the various capacities: getting the initial permit, course planning, overseeing, organizing volunteers, organizing equipment, planning the BBQ, cooking, shopping, vetting, collecting controls, setting up the start - at two different locations (!), setting up the finish at two different locations (!), getting the timing system up and running, printing start lists, providing results, helping with newcomers, helping at registration, providing first aid, cleaning up the start, cleaning up the finish, handing out medals, organizing the camping, transporting equipment to the site and back to Janet's, control site checking, printing maps, bagging maps, organizing bibs, and getting sponsors and prizes! There are many more roles, all of them valuable. Thank you very much. Your time and energy spent on this event is greatly appreciated.
Join us June 29 and 30th at Sheep River Provincial Park for an awesome weekend of racing in the natural beauty of the foothills of the Canadian Rockies. The events will be held on challenging but fun map at Sandy McNabb. Courses for all events will be suitable for all ages and levels of experience - the 2019 Alberta Champs is a chance for beginners to try out their new skills on courses designed for novice orienteers and a chance for veteran orienteers to put their technical skills as well as their fitness to the test on the challenging terrain at Sandy McNabb.
Of course orienteering is not just about the racing! Catching up with orienteering friends from other clubs is a big part of the weekend. To that end, we added a fun relay event on Saturday afternoon followed by a BBQ hosted by the Alberta Orienteering Association (AOA). All race participants and volunteers can enjoy the BBQ at no added cost, and we will have a $5 BBQ ticket option for any race supporters (parents). The AOA will present Medals from the Middle event during the BBQ. Medals for the Long will be presented immediately following the Long on Sunday.
Come on out to southern Alberta for the July long weekend and enjoy some good orienteering on terrific terrain and some fun socializing with your orienteering new and old friends.
Registration is now CLOSED. You can register on-site but a limited number of maps have been printed.
You are welcome to use the "Contact Us" form if you know before Friday June 28 that you would like to participate and we can try to accommodate you. Prices would be the same as if you were registering on the day of the event.
